The Future of Fire

The social-ecological decision space for intentional fire use.

The national synthesis project was the focus of the USGS Climate Adaptation Postdoctoral Fellows cohort as a group. Leveraging our different backgrounds and expertise gained through our regional projects, we developed a social-ecological triangle for intentional fire use that communities of fire practice can employ as a conceptual framework to inform their decision-making.

The postdocs have a paper currently under peer-review, co-authored with PIs Amanda Cravens, Christian Giardina, Kevin Hiers, Jeremy Littell, and Adam Terando. We also organized an oral session at the Ecological Society of America (ESA 2023) Annual Meeting, titled The Future of Fire: sociocultural and biophysical contexts for fire stewardship under climate change. The recorded session can be watched here.
